The requirement for Eton Cottage was to extend and upgrade the original cottage to improve both the thermal performance but also to minimise the ongoing operational cost. SRE developed an energy strategy and assessed a range of fuel/heating options suitable for the rural location and applicable to the design as well as advising on the thermal impact of potential fabric improvements being undertaken on the property. The result is a very energy efficient home, utilising a retained wood burner, condensing oil boiler and PV to offset electrical demand or provide direct hot water immersion if required.

‘We have worked with SRE on a number of projects both non-residential and private
residential and which varied considerably in size and scope of requirements. We found SRE to be helpful and very knowledgeable around the field of energy and sustainability issues in buildings. They provided BREEAM assessment and Code for a Sustainable Homes assessment for a complex public sector pair of projects as well as a well-considered energy assessment and strategy for an interesting private residential project. It is good to see that SRE can produce an appropriate product and service catered to these different scales.’
