The project was required to identify the comparative carbon implications of either refurbishing and redeveloping an existing locally listed property, or demolishing and re-building as part of a 17 unit development.

SRE undertook an embodied and operational energy study to assess which option would be less carbon intensive over the predicted lifetime of the development as well as an Energy Statement to show how 10% renewable energy could be generated on-site.

SRE were able to show the total carbon emissions from a new development had less environmental impact than refurbishing the existing building, and planning permission has subsequently been achieved for the scheme.
