
Malcolm Maclean
Director
Malcolm is the founder and director of SRE. He is a Qualified BREEAM Accredited Professional (AP), and is licensed to undertake 10 of the 15 BREEAM commercial and residential methodologies. Malcolm is a licensed Code for Sustainable Homes Assessor and SAP Assessor and a qualified Project Manager.
Malcolm has been working in the renewable energy sector since 2002. Having studied Architecture at Manchester University, he spent 6 years in the Army Air Corps before completing an MBA at Cranfield University. Malcolm worked with Scottish Power assessing risk for wind farms and headed up a business unit at SolarCentury before setting up SRE – formerly Malcolm Maclean Consultancy – in 2005.
Malcolm enjoys spending time with his wife and their 3 boys, growing vegetables and building tree houses.

Anna Maclean
Business Manager
Anna is SRE’s Business Manager. She is responsible for personnel, office management and business development.
During her Masters Degree in Geography at Edinburgh University, Anna specialised in environmental issues and ethical trade. She worked for the environmental consultancy SustainAbility and spent 6 years working in television and radio before training in horticulture and garden design and setting up her own garden design business.
Anna now balances her SRE role with her role of Mummy to her and Malcolm’s 3 boys.

Matt Jeans
Sustainability Consultant
Matt is a Sustainability Consultant and provides sustainability and technical support for Code for Sustainable Homes. He also supports SRE’s renewable energy work through research, data analysis and financial modelling.
During his degree in Environmental Science at the University of Southampton, Matt specialised in renewable energy and sustainable building methods. His dissertation looked at the achievability of the government’s zero carbon targets for housing.
Prior to joining SRE in 2010 Matt worked as an Environmental Consultant on ecological monitoring, terrain mapping and Environmental Impact Assessments.
Matt, when he’s not in the office, can be found hurtling down mountains on his bike.

Alan Kiff
Energy Consultant
Alan supports SRE as an Energy Consultant. He provides building services support, building regulation compliance checks (Part L2) and input into Energy Strategies on Commercial Projects.
Alan has been working as an Energy Services Specialist for 7 years. During his MSc in Building Services Engineering Alan focused on control strategies for lighting systems and the use of daylight in buildings. Alan has a 1st class BSc in Cybernetics and Control Engineering, is a Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and is an Affiliate Member of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers.

Tim Cave
Energy Consultant
Tim Cave is a qualified BREEAM EcoHomes Assessor and a qualified Code for Sustainable Homes Assessor. Tim joined SRE in 2007 as a Renewable Energy Consultant and provides energy modelling and assessment and sustainability input into residential and commercial projects. He also undertakes on-site renewable energy surveys and energy monitoring.
Prior to SRE Tim worked for an environmental consultancy providing waste and recycling support to Local Authorities as well as contaminated land assessment and topographical surveying. During his Environmental Science degree at the University of Portsmouth Tim focused on renewable energy resources, climate change and environmental law and policy.
When not in the office Tim can be found out and about on his mountain bike, listening to music or relaxing on the Isle of Wight.

Iain Turrell
Sustainability Consultant
Iain is a qualified Code for Sustainable Homes Assessor and a trained PassivHaus designer. Since joining SRE in 2008 Iain has been responsible for SRE’s sustainability work, writing Sustainability Statements and undertaking CSH Assessments. Iain also provides technical input into Sustainability Strategies and Route Maps.
Iain graduated with Distinction from his MSc in Architecture and the Environment at the University of Portsmouth. During his MSc Iain focused on sustainability assessment methods for the built environment. Iain has a BSc (Hons) from the University of Portsmouth in Sustainable Design and Environmental Management where he has also delivered lectures on thermal modelling of buildings.
Iain worked at The Environment Centre before joining SRE. He is an occasional swimmer, a classic car tinkerer and lives by the moto of ‘keep calm and carry on’.
