Malcolm is the Director and joint founder of SRE. He is a Qualified BREEAM Accredited Professional (AP), and is licensed to undertake ten of the 13 BREEAM commercial and residential methodologies. He is a licensed Code for Sustainable Homes and SAP Assessor and a qualified Project Manager. Malcolm has been involved in schemes ranging from Eco Towns and Millennium Villages to exemplar housing projects delivering low carbon solutions.
Malcolm has been working in the renewable energy sector since 2002. After studying Architecture at Manchester University, he spent six years in the Army Air Corps before completing an MBA at Cranfield University. Malcolm worked with Scottish Power assessing risk for wind farms and headed up a business unit at SolarCentury before setting up SRE – formerly Malcolm Maclean Consultancy – in 2005.
Malcolm enjoys spending time with his wife and their three boys and wearing his turquoise Hawaiian shirt at parties.
Senior Consultant & Key Account Manager
Iain is a qualified Code for Sustainable Homes Assessor, BREEAM Domestic Refurbishment Assessor and PassivHaus designer. Since joining SRE in 2008 Iain has been responsible for SRE’s sustainability work, leading on Sustainability Statements and undertaking PassivHaus modelling and CSH and BREEAM Assessments. Iain also provides technical input into Sustainability Strategies and Planning Applications.
Iain graduated with Distinction from his MSc in Architecture and the Environment at the University of Portsmouth. During his MSc Iain focused on sustainability assessment methods for the built environment. He has a BSc (Hons) from the University of Portsmouth in Sustainable Design and Environmental Management where he has also delivered lectures on thermal modelling of buildings.
Iain worked at The Environment Centre before joining SRE. He is a keen photographer, a car tinkerer and is currently learning to play the ukulele.
Anna is a co-founder of SRE and SRE’s Business Manager. She is responsible for personnel, office management and business development.
During her Masters Degree in Geography at Edinburgh University, Anna specialised in environmental issues and ethical trade. She worked for the environmental consultancy SustainAbility and spent six years working in television and radio before training in horticulture and garden design and setting up her own garden design business.
Anna now balances her SRE role with being a Mummy to her and Malcolm’s three boys.
Senior Sustainability Consultant
Claire Westron is qualified as an Assessor for BREEAM New Construction, BREEAM Domestic Refurbishment, Code for Sustainable Homes and The Home Quality Mark. Claire is also a qualified On Construction Domestic Energy (SAP) Assessor. Claire undertakes Energy and Sustainability Statements, Energy Modelling, BREEAM Assessments and Renewable Energy Feasibility Studies. Claire also oversees the CPD programme we offer our clients.
Claire joined SRE in 2015 bringing with her over eight years’ experience assessing both new build and refurbishment projects for a surveying and construction consultancy. Prior to that Claire worked for local authorities for seven years, developing energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, undertaking post occupancy evaluation on low energy housing developments and delivering environmental education projects. Claire has an MSc in Climate Change and Sustainability from De Montfort University, and a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Sciences from the University of Southampton.
Outside of work Claire attempts to keep fit by swimming, and enjoys spending time with her family. She is also a volunteer for a local scout group.
Nikolaos joined SRE in January 2017 bringing with him more than ten years’ experience advising architects and urban designers using advanced computer modelling techniques. He is an accredited Low Carbon Energy Consultant for non-domestic buildings, a BREEAM International assessor and a LEED Green Associate.
As one of SRE’s energy specialists, Nikolaos undertakes SBEM and SAP calculations, Building Performance Specification Summary Reports, Part L1 and L2 compliance, dynamic modelling, daylighting assessments, right of light calculations, urban microclimate analysis and CFD studies.
Nikolaos has an MSc in Sustainable and Ecological Engineering from Aegean University in Greece and a combined BEng and MEng in Civil Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece.
In his spare time Nikolaos enjoys reading, cooking and travelling.
Sam is a sustainability specialist and as a qualified BREEAM New Construction Assessor undertakes commercial BREEAM assessments and provides technical information for Sustainability Statements. He undertakes BREEAM LZC (low and zero carbon) feasibility reports as well supporting energy modelling.
Sam is currently studying for a PhD at Southampton University so is working reduced hours at SRE. His PhD is focusing on ‘liveable cities’ and the gap between the design and performance of social housing.
When Sam isn't working on Sustainability Statements, he's cooking, watching rugby or walking his dog along the seafront at Southsea.
Assistant Energy Consultant
As a qualified Building Service Engineer and PassivHaus Consultant, Xinlong undertakes dynamic energy modelling in support of Building Regulations compliance (Part L). He also carries out Renewable Energy Calculations and Energy Statements.
Xinlong has an MSc in Architectural Engineering: Environmental Design from the University of Bath. In his spare time Xinlong enjoys cooking and travelling. He is also a keen photographer.
Having joined SRE as an Assistant Sustainability Consultant in October 2016, Cameron supports work on a multitude of projects including BREEAM Assessments, SAP Modelling and both Energy and Sustainability Statements.
Cameron graduated from the University of Portsmouth gaining a BSc in Geography. During his degree Cameron specialised in The Quaternary and Glacial Reconstructions, spurred on by his love for Winter Sports and Environmental Conservation.
Outside of work Cameron enjoys both playing and watching various sports including football, rugby and cricket and supporting his favourite football team Luton Town. Cameron is also a keen surfer.
Assistant Sustainability Consultant
Will provides technical support and document tracking on BREEAM Assessments and inputs on general sustainability within the SRE team.
Will graduated with an MSc in Environmental Science from Aberdeen University. During his Masters he focussed on sustainability and the anthropogenic impact on the environment.
In his spare time Will enjoys exploring new places, horse riding and eating.
Angela works part-time for SRE as Office Manager and is responsible for communications. Angela joined SRE in March 2015 and brings over ten years’ experience working in PR & Events in the non-profit sector. With a degree in European Business Administration and Languages, Angela loves to travel and spend quality time with her family.
Anne joined the team in July 2016 and keeps SRE’s all-important books in order. She works for a number of clients during the week and we benefit from her skills and expertise on Monday.
In her spare time Anne loves walking, enjoying the countryside, playing bowls for the Royal Household and jewellery making. Her two greatest achievements were a BSc Honours degree with the Open University and flying on Concorde!
