As well as addressing the Medway Local plan, Queen Street was one of the first designs to respond to the Rochester Riverside Green Charter. The proposed development set out to establish benchmark sustainability standards within the designated redevelopment area. The whole scheme was to offset 10% CO2 emissions and each unit was to achieve Code Level 4. SRE advised on CSH standards and developed the sustainability and energy strategies which recommended communal heating (with CHP) and additional renewable energy technologies on each block. The project successfully achieved outline planning permission.
