Lighting Impact Assessment
The impact of artificial lighting needs to be considered during a development as it has the potential to become ‘light pollution’ if not used in suitable locations. ‘Light pollution’ can be harmful to wildlife and undermine enjoyment of the night sky, especially in areas with dark landscapes or those which are designated as International Dark Sky Reserves.
The initial design and setting the appropriate conditions during the planning stage is important. SRE’s building physics specialists complete dynamic modelling of proposed site layouts to calculate and model predicted light levels and will work with design teams to inform on appropriate lighting locations to meet compliance. We also create Dark Skies Lighting Impact Assessments for sites located within sensitive areas and International Dark Sky Reserves.
