Malcolm is Co-Founder and Director of SRE.
Malcolm is a Qualified BREEAM Accredited Professional (AP), and is licensed to undertake ten of the 13 BREEAM commercial and residential methodologies. He is a licensed SAP and Code for Sustainable Homes Assessor and a qualified Project Manager. Malcolm has been involved in schemes ranging from Eco Towns and Millennium Villages to exemplar housing projects delivering low carbon solutions.
After studying Architecture at Manchester University, Malcolm spent six years in the Army Air Corps before completing an MBA at Cranfield University. Malcolm worked with Scottish Power assessing risk for wind farms and headed up a business unit at SolarCentury before setting up SRE – formerly Malcolm Maclean Consultancy – in 2005.
Malcolm enjoys spending time with his wife and their three boys and wearing his turquoise Hawaiian shirt at parties.
Senior Operations Manager
Iain and Malcolm work together providing quotes for clients and ensuring each client is provided with the quality of service SRE has become known for.
Iain is a qualified BREEAM Domestic Refurbishment Assessor, PassivHaus Designer and Code for Sustainable Homes Assessor. Since joining SRE in 2008 Iain has been responsible for SRE’s sustainability work, leading on Sustainability Statements and undertaking PassivHaus modelling and CSH and BREEAM Assessments. Iain also provides technical input into Sustainability Strategies and Planning Applications.
Iain graduated with Distinction from his MSc in Architecture and the Environment at the University of Portsmouth. During his MSc Iain focused on sustainability assessment methods for the built environment. He has a BSc (Hons) from the University of Portsmouth in Sustainable Design and Environmental Management where he has also delivered lectures on thermal modelling of buildings.
Iain is a keen photographer, a car tinkerer and is currently learning to play the ukulele.
Anna is a co-founder of SRE and as CFO and HR Manager she is responsible for personnel, office management and business development.
During her Masters Degree in Geography at Edinburgh University, Anna specialised in environmental issues and ethical trade. She worked for the environmental consultancy SustainAbility and spent six years working in television and radio before training in horticulture and garden design and setting up her own garden design business.
Anna now balances her SRE role with being a Mummy to her and Malcolm’s three boys.
Senior Energy Consultant
Nikolaos heads up SRE’s Energy Team. As one of SRE’s energy specialists, he undertakes SBEM and SAP calculations, Building Performance Specification Summary Reports, Part L1 and L2 Compliance, Dynamic Modelling, Parametric Early Design Stage Studies, Daylighting Assessments, Right of Light Calculations, Urban Microclimate Analysis and CFD Studies.
Nikolaos joined SRE in January 2017 bringing with him more than ten years’ experience advising architects and urban designers using advanced computer modelling techniques. He is an accredited Low Carbon Energy Consultant for non-domestic buildings, a BREEAM International assessor and a LEED Green Associate.
Nikolaos has an MSc in Sustainable and Ecological Engineering from Aegean University in Greece and a combined BEng and MEng in Civil Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece.
In his spare time Nikolaos enjoys reading, cooking and travelling.
Senior Sustainability Consultant
Sam is a sustainability specialist and as a qualified BREEAM New Construction Assessor undertakes commercial BREEAM assessments and provides technical information for Sustainability Statements. He undertakes BREEAM LZC (low and zero carbon) feasibility reports as well supporting energy modelling.
Sam is currently studying for a PhD at Southampton University so is working reduced hours at SRE. His PhD is focusing on ‘liveable cities’ and the gap between the design and performance of social housing.
When Sam isn't working on Sustainability Statements, he's cooking, watching rugby or walking his dog along the seafront at Southsea.
As a qualified Building Service Engineer and PassivHaus Consultant, Xinlong undertakes Dynamic Energy Modelling in support of Building Regulations Compliance (Part L) and Thermal Comfort reports. He also carries out Renewable Energy Calculations, Energy Statements, Daylighting Assessments, Internal CFD studies and Condensation Risk Analysis.
Xinlong has an MSc in Architectural Engineering: Environmental Design from the University of Bath. In his spare time Xinlong enjoys cooking and travelling. He is also a keen photographer.
Will is a BREEAM Assessor and provides technical support and document tracking on BREEAM Assessments. He also inputs on general sustainability within the SRE team.
Will graduated with an MSc in Environmental Science from Aberdeen University. During his Masters he focused on sustainability and the anthropogenic impact on the environment.
In his spare time Will enjoys exploring new places, horse riding and eating.
Assistant Sustainability Consultant
Sarah provides technical support and document tracking on BREEAM Assessments and advises on general sustainability within the SRE team.
Sarah graduated from the University of Bristol gaining a BSc in Geography. During her degree, Sarah specialised in past and future climate change focusing on glacial and oceanic processes spurred on by her passion for environmental conservation.
Sarah loves travelling, watching beautiful sunsets and meeting new people. She also enjoys playing the saxophone and having a boogie with her friends to her favourite tunes.
Assistant Energy Consultant
As an Assistant Energy Consultant Callum supports the ongoing SBEM and SAP modelling undertaken by the SRE team.
Callum graduated from the University of Glasgow with an MSc in Sustainable Energy. During his Master’s Callum focused on the economic feasibility of net zero energy buildings in the UK. He also has a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Strathclyde.
Callum is a keen football fan and enjoys watching his team, Newcastle United, as well as camping, eating out and socialising with friends.
Yin Mui Tang
Assistant Energy Consultant
Yin Mui is an Assistant Energy Consultant and provides general and technical support for ongoing SBEM and SAP modelling work undertaken within the SRE team. Yin Mui is currently completing her MSc degree in Energy and Sustainability at the University of Southampton with her dissertation focused on analyzing performance degradation of rooftop PV modules.
Yin Mui loves being in touch with nature and exploring new places. In her spare time she also enjoys reading.
Dominique works part-time as Office Administrator and provides administrative and general support to assist with the smooth running of the office. She also provides support with HR, marketing and communications within SRE. She joined SRE in April 2019 and brings experience working in the Events sector and also has a degree in Oceanography.
In her spare time Dominique enjoys travelling and spending time with family.
Sarah-Jane joined the team in July 2018 and keeps SRE’s all-important books in order. She works part-time for various clients and we benefit form her skills and expertise three days a week.
In her spare time Sarah-Jane loves spending quality time with her family and dog, walking, baking and running.
